The part of the Cook is one of mystery, a person who prepares wonderful healthy, interesting, amazing meals from whatever there is in the kitchen.
Members of the family are dazzled by the meals that are tasty, delightful, what they long for at the end of each day, while appreciating the one who makes these mystical magical wonders.
To me the Kitchen is a place for creating, for experimenting, for fun, for delighting others, while also making clean, healthy, tasty meals.
It has been suggested that for guilt free biscuits etc use a quarter of a cup of applesauce instead of each egg. If the applesauce is sweetened then add less sugar in the recipe.
In my home I always cut the amount of sugar in all my baking and the whole family got used to it. So much so that when we ate store bought sweetened food we were alarmed at how sweet the food tasted, and sometimes I personally felt sickened by the sweetness. I would often cut the amount of sugar in recipes by half. The baking always tastes fine, and it was obviously better for teeth and health having much less sugar in the baking.
Recently I bought a large sided, large serving tray and I have been using it for making sandwiches, and rolling scones, mixing dough on. Because of this the bench does not get messed up so much and all I have to do is clean the serving tray.
When making scones you can throw the mix into a blender and the butter/margarine will easily get well mixed into the flour and this helps the scones come out soft.
I was told that when boiling peas to only take them to the boil and then take them off the element. The reason for this was to cook the peas to boiling point, but if they kept boiling then the natural goodness in the peas would go into the water which you threw away.
Since the water that we boil our food in has natural goodness in the water from the food I often pour the boiled water into a safe container and then when it has cooled down I pour it over the vegetables in the gardens.
Whatever you do don’t eat green potatoes. Green potatoes contain high levels of a toxin, called solanine, which can cause nausea, headaches and neurological problems, this is a reaction if the potatoes are exposed for a long periods of time to light and warm temperatures. Some friends of mine had left about 10 potatoes out in the sun and they had become green. They gave them to me and I cooked some that night and became very ill. I thought I would have to go to the hospital. I googled it and found out that green potatoes can make a person very sick and possibly can cause a coma and even death.
When wiping something up on the kitchen floor or scrubbing the floor because something was spilled on the floor and the like, please don’t use the same cloth or scrubbing brush/scrubber, that you use for the dishes and for plates. I have witnessed people doing this and they have not yet realized that people walk on the floor and they have been outside or in other places and the floor is not a clean place, thats why we wash it often. Keep all the cleaning gear for the dishwashing and sink separate from whats used for cleaning/scrubbing the floor and rooms to avoid transferring germs.
It occurred to me that if we drilled holes in the top of our cooking pots, the lids, then it is easier to pour out the boiling water. But possibly we don’t want to put holes in our best pot lids and also we don’t want the steam to escape while cooking. An answer would be to buy a second-
