I have come across many cases of what I could call Parental Snobbery.
It really doesn’t have to much to do with snobbery, it is more about adults putting themselves before their children.
Humbleness is understanding that we have control over the lives of our childrne, and in knowing that they unconditionally love us and depend on us, we should ensure that they are cared for in all ways just as we are.
A good example of this which seems to be mostly unnoticed by those who are actually doing this, is the habit parents have (which they probably got off their parents) of giving their children “something else” for dinner, or any meal of the day. Many wives seem to have the feeling that it is right for the husband to eat good quality food while the children have a lesser quality food.
Some parents may feed their children cheap food while the parents both eat good quality food. There is a myth that goes with this and that is that the children can get by with what they have but the parents (especially the father) have to have good quality food to give him the energy that he needs to earn the family money and so keeping healthy is important for the parents.
Clearly this gives the wrong impression to the children. The children want to feel that they are important members of the family – But how can this be if they are not even eating the same good quality food as the parents. Good advice to all parents is for the parents to eat the same food as their children. If the food is good enough and healthy enough for you, then it will be good enough and healthy enough for your children.
