The woman of the past who stayed at home during her children’s growing up years was not a woman of great rush.
Sure there were moments of rushing, but it was a life of general ease with a days work that if worked out could be a relaxing day. Many of a woman’s chores are relaxing and give lots of time for useful thought. Putting the washing on the clothes line is a simple task not needing much brain thought, but it was a relaxing time for a woman to think while she did the work.
A woman’s housework is not meant to be very challenging, if it were then she would not be able to look after the children and do the housework. As it is the woman often would put a household-chore aside while she looked after a young child who had hurt himself or the daughter may have needed help with some chore that she was doing.
We all do jobs or chores that relax us. It is those people who sit around all day with nothing to keep themselves meanfully busy that become spoilt in heart and unhappy. To have a worthy chore is to be happy – many people think the opposite mostly due to the claims that being spoilt or put on a pedestal is something to strive for or to spend one life wanting. People sometimes dream of being ‘swept of their feet’ and taken to a golden land of endless romance and holidays is something worth wanting, but alas a life of emptiness is a life of nothing. Doing something worthy is medicine in a person life. Being useful, being helpful.
Cooking a meal for a family is a very worthy task. The inner health of all members of the family is very important. To do this task with joy and well thought out planning brings great health and joy to those of the family who partake in the eating of these delicious treats and dinner that you put before them. But as well as being worthy this is also a good time for relaxing. A well planned dinner is a well coordinated task which gives you while you cook, organise and do the task time to think and yes even relax. And the grand satisfaction of putting a well cooked meal in front of a hungry family is a very nice feeling. We don’t need to hear cry’s of joy at the site of a good meal (although we cannot complain if we do hear these things), but to see visually the family hungrily “tuck in” to the food with gusto is enough for the modest hardworking house wife.
All these are part of the joys of being a woman. Woman’s chores are relaxing and a woman does have time to relax and feel content. Elsewhere in this book I mention that child, ren should go to school to be educated at the age of nine years old. This gives the woman of the home some very genuine time with her children and the opportunity to mold them with wise advice and teaching. The child by the time that he or she reaches nine years old will be a child of common sense and wise to the ways of life enough to be careful, and yet the child will have the very joy of life instilled in the child from his or her mother. Much good teaching will come from the father but the mother has a truly influencing part to play in the welfare, upbringing, health and teaching of the young children in the home.
A young woman today may make claims of misfortune and great losses if she does not continue working and may believe that she loses her self respect by becoming a mere mother to her new and young family. I would suggest that the young woman look at her life up to this point. View what it is that she has gained by being in the working world. Yes, she may have money – but she should save before she marries so that she will have many of the things that she will need when she is married. A well thought out life brings much joy and planning does actually help in your future, it takes many worries away from you now and in the future. There is often a grave fear in the young woman’s life of all the money the family will need when the first baby is born. If she is an enterprising young lady then she will be able to make many of the items that are required which will greatly reduce the family expenses.
Often we have this attitude these days to “keep up with the Jones” and this feeling can become a part of our lives and to do without a modern convenience we feel that we have failed our selves and the other family members of our family. This is just a feeling. If you have to rough life a bit then that is alright – humans are a worthy animal that has the ability to fight onward and do very well. We are very well equipt mentally and physically to deal with the hard times. Do not let the fear of the future to scare you from being a worthy parent. Do have a faith that God will be there to help and guide you through any hard times.
This is where the mother-to-daughter situation is very, very important. A mother who teaches her daughter how to deal with those worthy years when the daughter will tend to her own young is a mother of greatness and somebody that daughter can proudly love and know that she can rely on. A good mother, like a good father is a wonderful person and so very helpful and worthy of knowing. What a great joy it is to be a worthy God loving parent who knows that his or her children are happy to be their children. The family unit is such a wonderful things and a place (for a family is a spiritual place) for great love and joy even when the times can be rough.
Each member of the family stands by one another and rely on each other through the good times and the bad times. This is what the family until is all about. But without a good decent God loving mother the family will struggle, it may not totally collapse but there with be such a struggle without her. A woman is dearly needed into he home.
A good mother will teach her daughters th worth of doing the home chores and she will guide the daughter to living a simple and full life of love and happiness. Just like the father must guide the sons and explain to them why the wood must be cut and stacked to dry. Why the heavy chores should be done by the males of the home, and the work day away from the home.
