I made a mistake. It wasn’t intentional, but it could look intentional. Once it was done I could do nothing about how others saw the mistake.
Then I realized that I am a person of mistakes, mishaps, accidents, clumsiness etc. We all are. None of us are perfect. Every now and then we slip up. We live on a constantly changing world, and we cannot always be right, and we cannot always do the right thing, and we do make mistakes and have accidents.
Then I realized that it is not the person who made the mistake that is guilty, but the people that judge that person and make that person’s life unnecessarily a struggle because of that unforgiving judgement, that are guilty of hypocrisy and unfair cruelty.
We have a society that pushes us to succeed to reach some sort of “perfection”, people judge us by exam qualifications, by our income, by our car, by our worldly titles, by fame, status, and by our foolishness, accidents and mistakes etc.
What I realised is that the mistakes are fine, because they are natural. Everyone makes mistakes,we all slip up once in a while.
We need a society that does not condemn people for mistakes or accidents, but instead promotes and encourages learning from the mistakes and using mistakes to help guide our future and to help us make decisions.
This very judgemental society that we live in punishes people very hard for their mistakes.
Many of us grew up condemning ourselves or even others for their foolishness and mistakes. Many of us lost a lot of happiness and love because of judging ourself very harshly.
I/we/you and me/all of us, need to understand that it is human nature to make mistakes, not to be judgmental, but instead be understanding because we make many mistakes ourselves.
All the best from James Martin Sandbrook.
