Set Up to Be an Addict.

A good point to consider is that of you have addictions right now, then you will be an easy target for drug and alcohol addiction because your character is already set up for it. Your character is already weak because it can’t deny the other addictions, so when you try alcohol and drugs you will eventually succumb to them as well.
