The witch hunts of old times were based on many strange things, some truth, some lies and truth mixed, and sometimes a lot of lies, false evidence, no evidence just haters, people’s lack of understanding, people wanting to remove people, religious panic, etc.
If there was someone in town that people didn’t like or thought was not like them, weird, or maybe a hater wanted them hurt, someone (the narcissist hater more than likely) would come up with some completely fabricated story about the innocent person.
The towns people would come together as one for the common cause of protecting themselves, their children and their society, and they would all condemn the innocent person as one. There was no guilty feelings because they really believed in the accusations (probably because the accusations came from a friend, or trusted source) and they wanted swift justice done.

Even those who have never met or talked to the accused would join the ranks of the accusers keen to see justice done and the problem done away to protect those who deemed themselves innocent and worthy. They bonded for the common cause, and they found some excitement and something to talk about for the years to come, something that they were proud of being apart of. They had a cause and they intended to carry out justice as they saw fit.

Many of the so-called witches etc tried to plead innocence, but no one was listening, because their guilt was already completely confirmed before the laws got involved. Often there were fake trials and then horrible sentences of much pain and suffering.
One such case was an old man accused of being a warlock and was put under a slab of stone and left to die. It took about 3 days before his chest and such were finally crushed in this slow painful death and he died, he was an innocent man. There were drownings, burnt at the stake etc.

Just because the crowd believes in something and are all doing something it does not mean that they are right. It just means that they have a common belief, it does not in any way mean that those in numbers are right and are doing justice.

History is a wonderful tool for learning from our mistakes.
let’s not falsely judge people, lets give them their chance to have their say!
