Sometimes I remember occasions when I was a boy and I said something wrong, made a mistake or said something that I thought was right but it was wrong and I felt ashamed of my foolishness and mistakes, made me not want to speak out or to try things.
What I realised as an adult was that mistakes are not so bad, and we learn from them. But what was really bad and made me feel bad about even the small mistakes is how I was talked down to as a child, how I was made to feel like a fool, ashamed, not as intelligent as others, that was where the damage was, that was the real problem, it was other people projecting their failings onto me, their insecurities, and boosting their ego’s putting someone down, even adults making a child feel unworthy and not good enough.
This can be life lasting toxic feelings about ourselves and we could even do this to others as a parent and adult, unintentionally passing the toxic treatment on.
Breaking the cycle, cleansing the mind and soul, making a new start and learning to believe in ourselves again, means that we will be a blessing to others, our family and to all who meet and know us.
Anyone of any age can change and start again for the better. Everyday should be for learning, growing, it keeps life new, refreshing, exciting and a wonder.
