Robin (Andy’s brother) rang Andy up just before Andy died, but Andy was drunk so Robin said, “Oh sod him.” and hung up the phone, not realizing that he would never have the chance to talk to his little brother again. He has regretted that all his life.
Barry Gibb rang up Andy, and they got into an argument. Instead of being encouraging or trying to inspire his little brother, Barry told him off, corrected him. He told him to get his life in order etc. Barry Gibb said that he didn’t realise that it was the last phone call that he would ever have with his brother, so he has had to live with that guilt for the rest of his life.
Barry Gibb says that he regrets that they didn’t give Andy more of their time, they were always busy and not there for Andy. But Andy suffered depression all his life, and drug and alcohol abuse for many years.
The documentary said that Andy Gibb had wealth, looks, talent, and fame, but what he needed most was peace and happiness.
The last song that Andy recorded was about a mans journey through life and his search for love.
A sad true story is the life of Andy Gibb, but also a lesson for us all. “Wealth, looks, talent, and fame” do not satisfy the heart and even with them all, one can be terribly unhappy and depressed. Andy had the so-called dream life, and many women desired him, but what he wanted was true happiness. The happiness that fills the heart and soul, and that happiness money cannot buy.
Some of us come to a certain wisdom and we see the importance of inner-peace and love and we happily deny ourselves the trappings of a unhappy life of glossy materialism, and are content with a simple pleasurable life of loving innocence and joy with the one that we love, and our children. For us love comes first.
All the best from
