There can be times when something bad happens in a family, such as something morally wrong or something illegal, and the family band together and refuse to testify against a family member. They are more interested in being blindly loyal to family than to have justice done.

In some cases a young family member is wrongly treated and the family are upset about that, but they all hardly hesitate to surround and protect the adult who did the indecent thing. By doing this they leave the door open for the wrongs to be continued against innocents. And they leave a clear message to other relations that immoral and illegal behaviour will be accepted, or maybe frowned upon, but family will be protected and supported no matter what. Leaving the door open for more wrongs in the future.

We read that the likes of the Mafia have strong family ties, and go to great lengths to protect one another’s criminal activities etc. In society many families are doing this as well.

As they say, “One never knows what is going on behind closed doors” and that is very true.

If one allows family or friends to continue illegal activities then one has no right to complain about dishonesty in society, or about being mistreated themselves. If a person knows about a wrong and does nothing to stop it then that person is just as guilty as the wrong doers.

In New Zealand we have a law recently introduced stating that those who know about child abuse will be fined $10,000 if they don’t report it to the Police.

Many people have come forth and faced employers, family and friends with accusations of injustice in the workplace, illegal activity etc, that have seen justice done. Many have stood alone to ensure justice is done.

These people are not considering their own situation, but are instead they are strongly letting their conscience be their guide, and they are doing the righteous thing according to what their heart tells them .

For some of us we just can’t bear to see innocents abused, used, and mentally and emotionally confused by predator adults.

The horror at the child abuse lies in our inner-core, in our spiritual-heart. For people like us, there is no Truth verses Loyalty issue. For us there is only one answer, and that answer is that the abuse “must stop”.

If the predator is unrepentant and continues their activities then the message is clear. The message is that this person will continue their bad ways until someone with courage will save the day.

If we don’t try then nothing happens. If we don’t stand up against what is wrong, then wrong will continue. If we don’t stop the abuse when we know about it then the abuse will continue.

The Bible calls us to be loyal to God so that we will follow the laws of moral decency before all things, even above our blood family. Only by standing up against evil and bad doings will we be able to stop it, and have better communities.
