We should have set strong boundaries. We are all given free choice. And after we have set boundaries and we enter the ways of the world again we come up a fork in the road.

This is not a “maybe”, we definitely come to a crossroad, and this is to test us, and for us to see how honourable we are, and whether we have learned of love, respect, good moral standings etc or not.

In the book of Daniel we find that Daniel came to a time of decision.

Daniel was a teenager at this time. He was very dedicated to doing good, being worthy, and standing strong.

Daniel Chapter 1, verse 8:
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Are we going to choose a standard lower than our values.

For Daniel only the Lord could determine what he would eat. In that setting he went back to the original diet that excluded meat.

At this stage in Daniel’s life, Daniel was surrounded by non-believers. So he was clearly under peer pressure to fit in with the crowd, and to be weak-minded just like them as well. To not follow the crowd upsets them and makes us unpopular to the weak-minded.

• Note: We should not forsake the friendship of good people, for the popularity of non-believers.

• Evil communications corrupt good manners, know this and believe it.

• If you cannot influence people for good, they will influence you for evil.

Daniel and his good friends are being exposed to the world, they are told to conform to the ways of the world. The pressure was great on them. We are constantly being exposed to many different ways of thinking by unfamiliar people who made strange claims, but popular claims.

We are told all those weak-minded teachings are OK.
Weak churches allow ungodly behavior to be popular, it brings in the crowds and the money and makes the preachers ego feel good.

Daniel was told what he had to eat in the new place he was in. God had given them a dietary law and Daniel intended of keeping to that law. By God’s standards this new food that the King offered to Daniel and his friends was unclean, but Daniel was told by his captors to eat it.

We must not compromise. David said that I will set no evil thing before my eyes.

Daniel and his friends were given holy names, and were given unholy names by the King. But their character never changed. They were so strong willed that no matter where they were they continued to follow God.

They had to face a crossroad, should they do as God told them to do, or should they follow the King.

All 4 of the men would not defile themselves. The non-believers tried to change them and failed.

It could cost you a lot of things to follow God, but in the long run you will gain so much.

We are required to be faithful to God, and ourselves.

Daniel had to stand out as an example.

They wanted to be clean and only eat vegetables.

Sometimes we need to stop, look at our life, and then make a u-turn back to God.

When threatened by death they stood up with God, and God saved them.

We need to get our life right today, not tomorrow.

Anxiety and panic hold us back from standing strong. We must rise above this. We must have Faith and obedience.

Daniel and his friends were far healthier than the non-believers, and it showed.

If we do what God says He will honor His word to stand with us and protect us.

Daniel Chapter 1, verses 17-2:
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Never compromise your faith.

A huge redwood tree falls, 4 centuries old.

They were amazed that it fell. They wanted to know what had caused this magnificent tree to crumble, and they discovered that insect had burrowed into the trunk and slowly eaten away its strong foundation until noting but weak dust remained, and that was the mighty trees downfall.

Satan finds ways to seep into our character to erode our foundation of good values, and if Satan succeeds then we will fall too.
