A quick fix is to drill into the wood or even metal with a wider drill bit – Wider than the bolt or screw head. Then drill a smaller hole for the bolt or screw as you can see in Image 1.

Put the Bolt or Screw in and finish the job. Since you will probably be using a “Socket” for a Bolt Head you should make the larger hole big enough for a socket to fit into.
