Repair a Caps Velcro Faster

The Velcro on one of my caps fastener had worn out and was not sticking very well anymore. The hat was getting floppy and was worn, but it was a favourite cap so I decided to fix it.

Years ago I read many biographies and in one a millionaire said that a man came to him about a special material with loops on one side and a fluffy type of other material and they stuck together firmly. He asked the man if the millionaire company that he worked for was interested in buying the idea. The company was not interested, but the millionaire was so he helped the man sell the product which was called Velcro – they made a fortune.

First we need to get a Seam Ripper (sometimes called a Thread Cutter) to cut the thread that is holding the old Velcro in place.
Now get some scissors and cut the old Velcro off.
I got some Velcro Strips that I have. The paper can be peeled off and the Velcro applied.
Here I cut the new Velcro pieces to size using the old worn Velcro as a guide.

Next I peeled off the paper and stuck the new Velcro to the material strips where the old Velcro was and then instead of just relying on the stickiness to hold the Velcro in place on the material I used the sewing machine and sewed a Zig-Zag line down the center of each Velcro strip and around the edges I sewed a single line.
This ensures that the Velcro will not come off for years.

Here is the finished Velcro Fastiner.

I hope you found this a useful tip. I have been wearing this cap all day today and it is a very firm and strong fastener.

All the best from
