You and I know that they are not good for us these negative thoughts.
You may be used to them, and you may be used to them making you feel bad and stopping you taking up challenges. You must tell yourself that they are helpless and cannot do you any harm.
They create fears that do not exist, fears that will come to nothing, fears that have no foundation of truth.
You may have such low confidence that you may not trust yourself to do things right. In this case you may tell yourself often that you are a loser and are no good for anything. And as soon as something goes wrong, no matter how small, you start putting yourself down. This reaffirms in your mind that you are hopeless and will never be useful and will never amount to anything.
If we struggle to believe in ourselves then we can use self abuse to stop us trying. The trouble is that this stops us from trying something new in the future.
We may become too scared to try, or with constant put-downs we may fool ourselves into believing that we are not capable, or that we will make stupid mistakes.
The above examples show the incredible power of negative thoughts. They are like a drug, they keep the mind in a weak submissive state.
We must have challenges to find out what we are capable of. These are the tests of life.
Part of becoming confident is accepting challenges and completing them. If we are always negative about what we are doing we won’t want to try, and we will never gain confidence.
Just as if you were helping someone else, give yourself a chance and be positive about change. Learn to love your efforts that will bring about the loving person that you want to be.
Just because the world has sometimes let you down you don’t have to do the same.
Somewhere in the past you lost faith and confidence in yourself. That was the past.
To have the hope in life that your heart desires you must now believe in the new “confident you” of the future and set about making this new confident you a reality.
Change must start with positive action. You know that others have done this, and that proves that you can break free from low self esteem too.
Think of all the good things that you have done in your life. If you cannot come up with many them write some down and spend a few days coming up with good memories of your past accomplishments.
You are far more capable than you think, and you have much more courage than you think. You have more talent and abilities than you think. We are amazing in how we can grow and grow, so much so it seems that there is no real limit to what people can do.
When a person has miserable thoughts a lot of the time, those thoughts keep the mind in a negative state that blinds us so that we cannot see the amazing person that we really are.
If we are giving the negative thoughts time to roam around in our heads, then our abilities are hidden behind a cloud of negative thoughts that are stopping us from discovering the real person that we really are.
Try to imagine a more pleasant, mature, confident version of yourself and make that wonderful pleasant person you.
Remind yourself that you can only change yourself by trying something new and having a go. Challenge yourself gently at first, and then build on that.
Your confidence will grow with time. Love the new changes that you see in yourself. Believe in these positive changes as they are evidence of the new person you are becoming.
All the best from
James M Sandbrook.
