Moses had been with the people for a long time and he had been trying to bring them closer to God, but they frustrated him.
• When we come to God we are humble in tears, crying and wishing for change –
• We want to cast aside the old life and come closer to God.
• We ask God to give us strength to deal with life, to give us courage and to lift our spirits so that we can enjoy life.
• We want God to make all things new in us and then take us to the promised land.
So the trials in our life start and over some years we get shown right from wrong, and taught how to throw away the old life and welcome a new gentle kind loving life. We learn to appreciate an uncomplicated simple life and the values of a loving family, and setting strong boundaries to keep ourselves and our family out of trouble. We don’t want to be victims of evil any more.
Through the trials we gain self confidence and courage. We learn why it is good to apologize and that we must do this before we come to God. We learn about forgiveness, and that to forgive lets go of angers and bad feelings towards other people.
We learn so much and we grow and God gives us all that we asked for except one thing. And that one thing is the Promised Land.
Finally we are at a state of mind where we get a choice – to follow God or to disobey God. This is our ticket to a better future, a new life, if we obey God.
Moses was given strict instructions and he disobeyed God. And He and his brother were not to go to the promised land, but the others did.
The thing here that hit me is that we can become bitter or we decide to deny God and go back to the old life, with the old people and the old beliefs and old ways. Abraham was a strong example of someone who would do everything for God because he knew that whatever God asked of him would be for the better of the many, for the greater good of all. When Abraham was told to sacrifice his son he was going to do it because God asked him to. God sometimes asks us to get away from our family because living with them is destroying us and stopping us from moving forward.
Moses was a meek person, a man humble, and good. Meek means to be humble and gentle, kind and loving. Moses was all these things, but in the end all the trials and sufferings had got to him and he disobeyed God. On doing that he showed God that in the future he would disobey God, so sadly God left Moses behind never to reach the promised land.
Think about yourself and your own life. Think about the struggles and the trials and the good worthy things that God has done for you and your life. “Do you really want to go to the promised land?” or are you simply going to go back to the old ways?
The trials that we go through and the temptations that we face are to make better people of us. Stronger and more capable to face life. This is what we originally asked for – God kept His promise. So if we do not see the better “God blessed life” it will be because we gave in and became weak and walked away from God. We may have worried about what our friends and family may think – but who cares what they think, what will they think when evil takes us down and hurts us bad?
Think of the most painful shameful things that ever happened to you and that is the work of evil – sin may look good in the short while but in the long term it brings hell into our lives, why go back to that? That is what the old life will eventually give you.
God will bring us blessings and something new that we have not seen before. A better life. What we asked for. We can’t go forward as a disobedient person, we must stay with the meek humble changes that God has brought into our lives, then we move forward with God.
We cannot expect God to back us up if we won’t go the extra mile and do as He tells us. As a final test God would give us something to do that we would struggle to do, or believe, or not want to do.
Numbers chapter 20, verses 8-12:
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
Moses did not do as he was asked. What about you?
Will you do what you know in your heart and soul that you should do?
Will you deny yourself the promised land?
Or now that you know right from wrong and who is good and not bad, who will you follow?
What will you do at this crossroad in your life?
Its your choice, not Gods, not mine, not your families choice, only yours “for your life”. Don’t let yourself down!
