How to Clean Printer Heads.

At first my Canon Printer would not print in Black, only colours, and then I took out a few Ink Cartridges and put them back and strangely enough it was able to print in Black, but not colours.
After some research I decided to clean the Print Heads.

I did the usual Print Head Cleaning and still Black was printed, but no colour except some light blue.

Thankfully I had only just purchased a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol, also known as Rubbing Alcohol.

(I have also discovered that water works as well – it does on my printer head)

On some printers the Print Heads are on the Ink Cartridges.
On my Canon Pixma iX6860 the Print Heads are below the place where the Print Cartridges sit.

I removed the Ink Cartridges and then lifted up the Lever as is shown in Image 2 and then was able to remove the whole unit.
Your Printer will possibly have another way to remove the Print Heads and you will need to consult your Printer Manual or the company that made your printer’s web site.

Now pour some Isopropyl Alcohol in a dish, about half an inch/1 and a half centimeters, and then put the Print Heads in the dish and let the unit soak for about a minute or two.
I read on one web site that if the Print Heads don’t clean then leave soaking overnight in the Isopropyl Alcohol, but I had no need to do that.

Remove the Print Head from the dish and using a folded Paper Towel “dab” the Print Head to get the ink off. Image 4 shows the results.

I left my Print Head for a while to dry and then put it back into the Printer, added the Ink Cartridges back in their places.

In your Printers ‘Printer Properties‘ Window, click on the ‘Maintenance‘ tab. Give the heads a Deep Cleaning, then print out a test to see if the printer now works as it should.

If not then it could be something serious, or you can do as the other web site suggested and soak the Print Heads longer.

For me the Print Heads went from printing no colour to working perfectly and colour seen in Printed images once again.

I hope this helps you out.
So before you go buy a new computer so try this, it may save you hundreds of dollars.

All the best from
