I was sure after looking into the situation that it wasn’t God’s will.
This man was also reading books about “going for it!”, and “Don’t let anyone stop you achieving your goals!” etc. You know you dress yourself up on the outside, get a bit of an education on a subject and then as a Christian believe that when you set a goal that God is supporting this goal and it will come true.
My experience is that God does not work that way. God does whats best for you, not what you decide is best for you. You may get some things that you want and that is fine, but your destiny is in God’s hands and not yours.
This friend threw lots of money, frustration and effort into this project and he declared that God was supporting this. Now my first comment to this is that God wants the best for you yes, but He wants the best for your heart and soul and your career, house, car and the like are all put to the back. God wants you mentally strong, capable and learning to love again, and have the innocence of a child.
While this guy was throwing himself into this project he was offered this and that, but he refused because he said that he knew that he would get this project and that this was the best thing for himself and his family – he became so focused that he became narrow-minded and could see nothing but the project and he dedicated himself to gaining it. The end result was that this guy won. He got what he wanted, but he paid for it over and over again over the next 4 to 5 years and there was all sorts of things wrong with the deal.
God was trying to guide him away from this project. I tried to suggest that maybe this wasn’t God’s will for him and his family, but the books said, “Go for your goal, and you shall get it!”
Believe me, God is more interested in your heart and soul. You can dye your hair from blonde to black, change your clothes from plain to fancy, you can change your walk, strut around and act “confident’ or arrogant, but that is all just covering on the outside. The only way you will succeed is to follow God, and then you will finally find that peace of mind that you have been searching for all your life.
Inner piece cannot be filled with a car, house, money, sex or any form of physical item or feeling. Confidence is created on the inside and with real confidence you can deal with your life confidently and with courage.
The motivators inspire us for the moment, then leave us all hyped up, and then our weaknesses and problems drag us back to where we once were. The only peace is to follow God.
Psalm 119, verse 1:
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
Psalm 119, verse 6:
Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
