One of the downsides of Living Alone as I found out today, and I have always been very aware of is that a person living alone could have an accident and need assistance and there is none.

Its also harder to work out if you are injured if you need an ambulance or a doctor tor have to go to the hospital.

In the carpet this morning was a blade for a scribe that I use for my vinyl repairs, trimming and cutting. While walking to my computer I turned and my bare foot slid across the carpet perfectly so that the blade embedded in to my foot.

I had not been to the convenience yet, so the foot was not bleeding when I pulled the blade out so all seemed good except the pain, but alas, when I left the toilet room a pool of blood was left on the tiles on the floor.

So very awkwardly I had to get through all my first aid stuff, and as it is always with an emergency, I was short of stuff. So in the end, some ointment, a patch, some bandages was clumsily applied and the bleeding has stopped.

Now I am resting my foot so that the blood clots to seal the wound and hopefully all is well. But i still have to work this afternoon and night, so we will see how that goes. The hole is not so big so probably they could do nothing at the hospital anyway.

Usually if I get hurt I wait to see how bad the damage is and if all seems well I just get on with life. You can also tell by how much blood you lose, if it is lots then it probably is a vein cut, and that’s probably not good.

The danger is that one could live alone, have an accident, and it not noticed for a long time, many days, especially if that person is not working and then be permanently crippled or actually die from their wounds.

I remember about 10 years ago, home alone, after a shower and i slipped on the bathroom tiles and got jammed between the bath and door. In a lot of pain I lay there and had to get my leg and hip that was jammed between the door end and the bath.

My phone in the kitchen, and in a lot of pain, I started to wonder if I had broken something or could not walk.

It worked out, but by gosh it hurt for a while. and it made me start thinking about people having accidents int he home if they live alone.

So if you decide to live alone, even for a short while, you should consider as many variables of how many different accidents you could have, where and how and then work out what you will do to basically save yourself.

A question to ask yourself is, should you have a cell phone with you always except the bath and shower, and this is a good idea. My advice is to keep a cell phone in the bathroom anyway. These days cell phones are resistant to water and can handle moisture from a misty room such as when someone has a shower.

Many people have accidents in the shower/bath and fall, and then can’t get help if they break a hip or something else. So having a phone close by is a very good idea for people living alone.

When a person climbs to a high place like a roof he or she has to work ut what safety needs to be put in place “in case of an accident” and when living alone one should also think that way, and as they say prepare for the worse. If the worse does not happen then that is wonderful, but if it does then you will be prepared as you can be as any person who is living alone.
