I once read that Brian Wilson got a trick off Jan Berry for making vocals seem younger, more innocent, and that was slightly speeding up the speed of the vocal recording – not the music, jsut the lead vocal. And Brian Wilson used this technique on many of the Beach Boys early hits. And as with God Only Knows he got Carl Wilson’s lead vocal and he plays two copies of Carl’s voice.

The problem with amazing studio techniques is that it can be hard to duplicate the technique in live concerts.
