I have always wanted a Rotary Hoe that was machine driven and my knee had been playing up recently so I decided to try this rotary-hoe-tiller-cultivator from TopMaq.
When it arrived it needed a bit of assembly, like the wheels needed to be put on and also the tines, but that was not too hard at all.
The Two-Stroke fuel mix 50-1 and that was easy to do as the Rotary hoe comes with a small container of Two-Stroke Oil and a container to mix the Unleaded petrol and oil. Once that was done it was time to try this out in the gardens.
The Write-up on the TopMaq site is as follows:
Champion Power Equipment created this portable tiller cultivator for powerful performance in a compact, easy-to-maneuver design.
Whether you’re preparing a vegetable garden, planting a shrub or caring for your lawn, the Champion Portable Gas Tiller Cultivator has all the features you need to get the job done. The 43cc single-cylinder 2-stroke engine with a 50:1 gasoline/oil mix offers impressive performance that will make your toughest gardening tasks a pleasure. Assembly and set up is a snap right out of the box, thanks to clear directions and thoughtful packaging with enough oil to mix one gallon of fuel, a measuring bottle and a spark plug wrench. You’ll be ready to tackle your garden or landscape project in no time. The adjustable tilling depth of up to 6 inches offers versatility whether you’re digging, tilling, weeding or cultivating. Even the most challenging ground is no match for the four 8.75-inch (22.2 cm) hardened steel tines and their efficient bidirectional shredding design. Weighing in at just 19.7 kg and only 420 mm wide, this tiller cultivator is ideal for navigating tight spaces, working near fences and tilling near delicate plants. The lightweight and compact design performs like a heavyweight, while you enjoy smooth maneuverability and comfortable handgrips as you power through your outdoor to-do list.
– Standard Rotating Tines (SRT)
Standard rotating tine tillers see the tines rotate forward “pulling” the tiller forward. This feature can be used with or without self-propelled wheels.
– Dual Rotating Tines (DRT)
Dual rotating tine tillers very widely depending upon the specific type of tiller being discussed, the Champion DRT tiller see the tines rotate forward under standard operation but can also rotate in reverse for short periods of non-tilling activity (e.g. moving the tiller out of a difficult location).
– Counter Rotating Tines (CRT)
Counter rotating tine tillers see the tines rotate “counter” or opposite the direction the self-propelled wheels are turning. If the wheels are moving forward the tines are rotating backward, if the wheels are moving backward the tines are rotating forward.

The photo above shows the Rotary Hoe being carried, and you can see that bar that connects the wheels to the unit. There are holes which a pin goes through to set the depth of the Hoe. The wheels are turned over and are at the top when the Rotary Hoe is in action.
The small engine packs plenty of power and churns over the dirt with ease.

This Rotary Hoe is easy to use and digs well.
What I did was let the tines pull the Rotary Hoe forwards until I had done that row, then I pulled it back and did that row again and again, this allowed the Rotary Hoe to go rather deep.
By doing it this way I was easily able to dig deeper and deeper each time. What can be done is that you can use a shovel to dig out the turned over soft dirt and then dig it all up with the Rotary Hoe if you need to go deeper.
I got this idea from watching this video below where a man used a small rotary hoe to dig a trench.
For turning over the top soil and general digging I found this small Rotary Hoe excellent for the job.
You can also use it on the top soil, sprinkle compost or whatever over the top, then use the Rotary Hoe on it again digging in the compost into the gardens. This is an easy way to do this job.
All my gardens were prepared in a short period of time. You will save much time using a Rotary Hoe like this one.
All the best from James Martin Sandbrook.
