Making Framed Posters

A story. My printer died. But I had a bunch of ink cartridges for it so not wanting to waste them I bought a printer that accepted the same cartridges. It is a Canon iX6860 A3 colour Printer. In short, it prints up to A3 size or just above that at A3+.

You don’t have to own an A3 Printer to do this project I am just telling you how I got to this idea. I had some A3 paper, small poster size. And then wanting to print something I remembered that when I was a teenager we would go into art or posters stores and find posters with top and bottom frames on them.

So I reasoned that if I had some trim (thin strips of wood) I could do the same.

Image 1 - Choose and Print poster.

Image 2 - Get the strip of wood.

Image 3 - Measure width of paper.

Image 4 - Or just measure wood against paper for cutting.

Cut the wood. I did this with a hacksaw blade as it is easier cutting small wood that way sometimes.

Image 5 shows the poster with the wood at top and bottom. How you put the wood there is your choice.

Here are some ideas.

  • Glue the paper to the wood at the back of the wood.
  • Pin the poster to the back of the wood with drawing pins/pins.
  • Brad Nail the wood and posters to a wall or whatever.

I have tried all of these and they work.

Another idea is running a chain, string, coloured rope, ribbon, and such, from each end of the top strip of wood to hang it on a wall. The image above (click on it if you will) is over $12. You can make your own and give them out as gifts and save money too.

I have been asked to make these posters for people. They really look nice and professional.

You can do this in A4 and other sizes, but A3 is very nice for this sort of thing.

One I made that is on my kitchen door.
In My Room!

As you can see, you can have a lot of fun making these and also giving them away as presents.

Let people know how you feel about them by such a gift.

Enjoy!
