Padder Tennis Bats

Padder Tennis Bats.

All my life I thought it was called Patter Tennis, and only last night while researching the name I found that it is called Padder Tennis.

This game was a huge pastime in our back section and at the schools we visited after school hours.
The children and I would play it on the grass on our back section.

For years I have made Cricket Bats, Cricket Wickets, hockey sticks for the children.
I had no idea that I was good at this or that I was so used to doing this until I was talking with the wife and the neighbours husband and wife and one of my children broke a Padder Tennis bat and I said to the wife and neighbours, “Be back in a second.” and went to the garage, found some wood, cut the bat out of the wood and was back in the conversation in little time.
It was then that the neighbours commented on how fast I was and the quality of the bat that I realized that I had made a few.
Practice makes perfect.

Making a Padder Tennis bat is easy, very easy, and I am only mentioning it here so that you know that it is possible for you to make your own instead of buying the cheap nasty plastic bats.

Take an existing Padder Tennis Bat and trace its shape on some plywood or wide plank that it can fit on, and then cut it out with a Jigsaw, sand the edges, and if you want you can add curved wood to the handle that some Padder tennis Bats have, or round the handle off while sanding.

Its that easy and they last for years. an advantage to doing this is that you can make the bat smaller, or bigger according to your style, paint it your colours, and it becomes personalized just for you. Each one of your children can have a personalized bat as well, their own colours, stickers, and such.

All the best from
James M Sandbrook.
