Society, advertising, peer pressure etc are always trying to get us to feel that we always have to go go go.
Or try the latest version of such and such, or get into the latest fads. Our body is never good enough, our face needs a daily makeover.
Wow, are they saying that we aren’t good enough. And don’t forget your brain needs all that education or you will never survive “in the modern world” etc.
The Good News is that everything about you is good enough. You may eat too much, or starve yourself, but that is depression and issues that you have picked up over the years.
What society is really saying is that they have created a system of survival, but it has one major problem. In order for it to work you and I must be in full time work and we need to spend, spend, spend, or the society they created will collapse.
This is why Christmas became what it is today. People got addicted to material goods because of billions of dollars of advertising thrust in their faces.
The truth is that we can survive without politics, fast food outlets, and all those fancy products on the shelves in the shops.
What is killing us and making us selfish is that we are delighted with material things, and people don’t like love, at least sacrificing love.
Please for the sake of those who you love, be sure to let them know that you love them, because as The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens showed us, love and care is what the world really needs more than anything.
All the best from James M Sandbrook.
