Recently I bought a multi-tool, and I am very happy with it.
They tend to have different names and many different fittings/blades etc, so I found it difficult to figure out what they were used for and what the actual name of the tool was. The Black & Decker is a Multi-Function tool, with DeWalt  its a Brushless Oscillating Multi Tool Kit.

In New Zealand the prices really change with the brand. The DeWalt is $708, while the Black & Decker is $79 each.

The DeWalt is brushless and battery, while the Black & Decker is corded.

If you can get a much cheaper battery multi-tool you will find it very portable.

The tool itself with all the extra’s is amazing. I had not considered buying one until I saw a few Carpenter YouTube video’s raving about how useful they are. I have to admit the thought of buying one grew and grew and I got one, and I also bought a big lot of attachments separately from another seller and have used it for odd jobs that would have taken much longer and would have probably been much more mess and  wood chipped etc. I love the function of cutting through nails, its so handy, and for trimming or just cutting some wood. Done in seconds and easy to use with some practice.

Another advantage that I have found very useful is that if you want to remove trims wood that are nailed into place the multi tool blades fit in small gaps and if you work it carefully you can cut all the nails and just pull the trim or wood off. This can also be done with 4 by 2’s and other wood.

For the home handy person a cheap one should do for the odd job around the house, no need to shell out the big dollars for the expensive ones unless you intend on using it a a lot.

I don’t use mine a lot, but when I need it, it is a real lifesaver. I always put it down after a job very happy that the job went so easy.

I highly recommend them for the workshop.
