I always said to my children that they should try to fix things up or make things themselves before they brought in a trade person or bought the item.
Recently my trowel handle broke off so I made one from a branch off one of my trees that was the right size. It works perfectly and saved me having to buy a new trowel and also from throwing away something that just needed repairs done to it.
Get some tools, collect many over the years, and then when something needs making make it yourself and try to make it out of something natural like wood, its much healthier for the environment. Do your own repairs if you can, you will save money and gain a new skill.
