Spellbound The Very Best Of Split Enz

© Mushroom Records Mush33015.5 - 2 CD Set.

As you can see from the track listing above, Spellbound has all the hits of the Rock group called 'Split Enz', along with some of the not so popular songs.

Split Enz music changes on this collection from the fast paced 'I See Red' and 'Shark Attack' to the easy listening 'Message To My Girl'. This is an interesting variety that is sure to be of interest for many generations to come.

The cover on the CD looks like it is a Maori design or 'Moko' on a face. It is a very interesting design. The Moko is a tatoo of sorts that was very popular with the Maori people in New Zealand around a hundred years ago. The Moko was 'carved' into the persons face. The males (Tane) normally had a full tatoo and the women (Wahine) normally had a tatoo on the chin. They looked very impressive, but it must have been a very painful experience for the person recieving the Moko.

In the original Spellbound CD Poor Boy  - Shark Attack - Charlie - Time For A Change - were all from live recordings. This is the second Spellbound release.

For both the serious and the average Split Enz fan this is a good collection of hits. Split Enz fans will enjoy the popular songs. Like the interplanetary 'Poor Boy' who has an alien love, as well as 'I Got You' from Neil Finn, and the fast 'I See Red'.

The group from New Zealand was well known for thier crazy costumes and makeup. Split Enz amazed many people with their looks and were bound to get lots of attention, which they did.

Noel Crombie was the man who designed the wacky costumes and makeup and he was sometimes seen on stage playing 'spoons'.

Split Enz band members:

Tim Finn - Neil Finn - Phil Judd - Michael Howard - Miles Golding - Mike Chunn

Wally Wilkinson - Noel Crombie - Eddie Rayner - Geoffrey Chunn - Robert Gillies

Emlyn Crowther - Malcolm Green - Nigel Griggs - Paul Hester.

True Colours was the record that really made a difference. The Neil Finn song 'I Got You' shot up the charts and the group was seen in a different light.

Now they didn't need the costumes and makeup, people were listening to the music.

Along with the name Split Enz they had many interesting names for the Split Enz albums, like these:

True Colours

Mental Notes

Second Thoughts

Conflicting Emotions

Frenzy

Dizrythmia

Time And Tide

Corroboree

and See Ya 'Round

Split Enz will be remembered for the crazy makeup and costumes, and most of all, the music.

All the best from
