Consummation

Consummation, in religion, is the first act of sexual intercourse between two people, often seen as the the single act that “seals” the marriage.

Meaning that the public marriage ceremony, the public vows, all mean something, but they do not make the marriage complete - it is the consummation of the marriage that completes the marriage and makes it real, make the marital union complete by sexual intercourse consummate a marriage.

It means in the spiritual and physical sense that they are giving each other heart and soul to be together, forever, and as one.

Genesis Chapter 2, verse 24:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Another way of seeing it is that it is the taking very seriously the act of sexual intercourse so much so that it is not done until one is absolutely certain that the mate that they have chosen is the person who they want to be with in marriage, day and night, best friends, partners in life, lovers and as parents.

Also means to finish a deal and to make perfect.
