Courageous

2011

PG-13 - 2 Hours, 9 minutes - Drama, Christian.

Director: Alex Kendrick.
Writers: Alex Kendrick, Stephen Kendrick.

Courageous is a movie that is based on all things good, such as respect, honour, love, family, doing one's best, taking risks, doing the right thing, and not putting up with people taking the lazy road, giving up and doing the dishonest thing.

The movie starts off with excitement with the Police in action after a vehicle is stolen, the owner of the vehicle Nathan Hayes (Ken Bevel) chases it and latches himself to the driver door fighting the thief, the criminal took more than he bargained for and that was his downfall.

We see a determined father doing whats best at great personal risk and protecting his own. The opening scene probably had a lot of parents wondering if they would have done the same thing. We all want to believe that we will do the right thing if the time should happen that we need to do so.

With great love comes responsibilities, and great courage to protect one’s own. The responsibility is not what is expected of us, but what our heart demands of us. Once we realize that we can do no other than the right thing by our children, we really have reached a wonderful place of love and courage in our own souls and lives.

The movie touches on many subjects, and parenting is one, and also the stress of being in the Police force and being a parent.

There is comedy as well. One part Adam Mitchell (Alex Kendrick) talks to his wife, tell her that he loves her, and then talks to the Sheriff directly afterwards on the phone and accidentally when he signs off says love you to the Sheriff which horrifies him once he realizes what he did.

There is a scene that reminds me of Security Patrol and how we have to enter buildings with only a torch at night to check it out after we have been called there after an alarm activation. Not an attractive job, but someone’s got to do it. There is another part of the same chase where the Policeman is told to go to a street and he doesn’t know where it is and that has also happened to me, so glad we can find streets so easily these days with technology and can respond with speed even if we don’t know where the street is at first.

This is a good movie. This is a Christian based movie and about family, and also some everyday type of situations that families have to face. Tony Dungy, the Super Bowl couch said that the Courageous movie is, “Powerful, heroic, entertaining, and life changing! .

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect.

As law enforcement officers, they face danger every day. Yet when tragedy strikes close to home, these fathers are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, and their faith. From this struggle will come a decision that changes all of their lives. With action, drama, and humour, the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures embraces God's promise to "turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers." Souls will be stirred, and hearts will be challenged to be ... courageous! -  Anonymous.
