It means that whatever you choose people will say bad things about you.
It seems that it is an Eleanor Roosevelt quote.
“You will be damned if you do and you will be damned if you don't”
A situation where either choice results in a negative outcome - Wictionary.
Some feel that it means that whatever you do you can’t win.
Condemned, whatever decision one makes.
I always saw this saying ‘damned if you do and damned if you don't’ as meaning if I don’t do anything people are going to say bad things about me anyway (like that I am a coward), so I may as well do the brave thing and take the risks.
Because when I do the brave thing and take risks people are still going to say bad things about me because some people can never see good or the bright side, thats their way, some people are just haters.
But also in the end I will feel much better about myself if I take the hard brave path, and I think that helps make a big difference on what choice is the right choice to take.
If in the end we do something, and it is a risk or causes some anxiety, if it will make us free, better our lives, be good for others, then it should be considered an opportunity and taken.
It is the right thing to do whether it is hard or easy as long as it is the good thing to do, so it should be done, especially to keep our own mental health in order and self respect and to make the world a better place.
All the best from
