Years ago there was a Minister of Parliament here in New Zealand who was involved in a big court case that was getting plenty of publicity, especially locally.
The court case and his defence of a couple was making him look good, like a hero, and he was soaking it all up and probably seeing new votes at the next election from it all.
I knew someone who was working with him, but was of little power, and she told me that about 2 days before the court case ended and the verdict was made that the Minister of Parliament was approached by some people with evidence that the people who he was backing were lying and that he was doing wrong by backing them up and supporting them. In fact many of the general public new that they were guilty but not the rest of the country.
So here he was with evidence proving that he was doing a bad thing, now he had a chance to do justice, to set things right and to show these two liars for what they really were. What did he do?
He changed nothing and got them and a Government apartment was shamed (yet that department was in the right and the Minister of Parliament new that). It appeared that he was scared of telling the truth because if he did he would be backtracking on all the people he had publicly talked bad about, shamed, and such. Like all politicians he let his mouth run free as he proudly showed other people up.
So the two criminal minded people got away with their crimes because they had an important popular Minister of Parliament backing them up.
This same Minister of Parliament and I once clashed publicly over abortion, and because I knew this woman I knew that he supported abortion. So I wrote to the newspaper and shamed him very effectively, but the editor was a friend of his and the Minister of Parliament was allowed (no one else was allowed to do this) to reply under my letter when it was published in the newspaper and the Minister of Parliament ‘s reply was in special text and a frame, saying that he was supporting the Anti-Abortion protestors.
The following week he was on on the front page of the newspaper walking and holding signs in favour of shutting the abortion clinic down, yet personally he supported the abortion clinic. In other words in true political style he would publicly show one thing and behind the publics back have different views - anything for a vote.
The result of this was that he was taken from his post, his portfolio taken from him and he disappeared from politics, even his own political party discarded him. People say that you don’t pay for your wrongs, you do, and we do pay especially for our cowardice, its just not always immediate or obvious. The Minister of Parliament had the chance to do the right thing and he cowarded out and he paid in a different way, he lost his entire career of which at one stage he was heavily popular.
Doing the right thing is about our conscience telling us about doing what is right because there will be many positive results from it, like Martin Luther refusing to bow down to the greatest human authority of his time, and the result was the Reformation that has affected billions of lives ever since. Courage pays off for the courageous person and for many other people. This Minister of Parliament would have been honoured for having the courage to admit that he was wrong but he wanted justice done and he wanted the dishonest people to not get away with their crimes. Instead of many of us being disgusted in him we would all of seen him in a strong light of being a decent honourable righteous person.
Doing the right thing clears our conscience, helps us sleep better, gives us a feeling of self respect and w love ourselves more for being a good person when it counts.
Doing the right thing may just be the thing that you were born for, so make your input and life count for what is the good and worthy thing to do. It may seem hard to do now, so get some good strong backup, in the future you will never regret being the good courageous soul that you needed to be when it counted, and you will be respected, loved and admired by many.
If we don’t do the right thing then the wrong things will continue.
All the best from

It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.

Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value. Look around at how people want to get more out of life than they put in. A man of value will give more than he receives. Be creative, but make sure that what you create is not a curse for mankind. - Albert Einstein.
