Homemade Curtain Rails instead of Curtain Wire.

I would walk around the house on the outside and see the net curtains sagging in the middle in each window frame, and didn’t like it.

I tried tightening the curtain wire, buying new wire, and in time they would sag.
So I desired a new system where the curtains would be straight all the time at the top.

This is a very simple project. I went and bought some dowel rods that were long enough and when I got them home I would cut them down to size to fit the window frames.

I made my own end holders out of wood, I will have to make this a future project to show you how I did it.
Basically it was just a piece of wood cut to a U shape and screwed into the frame and the dowel sits in it.

In one case I was left with two short rails that combined were big enough but not long enough by themselves, So as a challenge, I got two wood screws, soldered them together at the heads with my big soldering iron and then screwed each end into the other making it one long curtain rail/dowel.

The point is that you don’t have to put up with using curtain wire, you can use wooden rods and from that day onwards you will replace your curtains as time goes by but the straight dowels will last much longer and your house will look neater with these straight rails holding your curtains up.

The net curtains have room at the top for the curtain wire to go through, also down can fit through as well.

To be creative and to match your house you could paint, varnish, or stain your curtain rails.

All the best from
