A joist is a horizontal member that generally runs across a building and is supported by a beam.
The latest joists that I am seeing are not made of wood or steel, but thin galvanised metal. This page is to introduce someone who is not yet familiar with these new brackets and their uses.
Image 1 shows a small cutting from a Google search, I put it here for you to get an idea what these brackets look like. Below are some photos that I have taken to show you how they are used and also the plates of steel with holes in them that are nailed to hold a joist in place.
