Kincrome Gear Spanner
I found this spanner on the road one day at nighttime while driving, and I didn’t get a good look at it, just chucked it in the vehicle.
I took it home, put it in the garage and forgot about it, and then about two days later I remembered it and went and had a closer look at it.
Before this I had never seen a spanner that had ratchet capabilities. I saw the little lever on it and figured out what it could do, as the lever is the same for forward and reverse on a ratchet socket driver. I was impressed. Tried it on a few bolts I had and it seemed to work well, but I wondered, is it solid.
Recently the height adjustment arm on my lawnmower broke, and as it is out of warranty I set about fixing it myself. I always work on my own lawn mowers and garden gear as it is something I like to do, and its cheaper because I buy tools for the jobs and can use the same tools on other work around the home. For me this sort of thing is a lot of fun.
I needed to get the bracket off that held the lever and it just so happened to be a 10 mm bolt holding the bracket on to the lawn mower chassis. On the nut I used a standard 10 mm spanner and the ratchet spanner on the bolt head and set to work loosening and then removing the bolt. It was tight, and I has to use a fair amount of pressure to loosen the nut, but the spanner held up just fine.
I have used the Kincrome Gear Spanner on a few jobs and so far it has stood up to the pressure. I had wondered that because of the mechanisms working within to make the ratchet function that it may be a tad weak, but so far I have seen nothing to prove that.
I have been looking for a set of these spanners to buy as I can see them to be very useful around the home for DIY work.
They have the great advantage of being slim and easy to put in narrow places and over a nut or bolt head.
There are other brands that make these spanners, so do shop around if you intend on buying some.
All the best from
