I grew up in what is commonly known today as a Toxic Family.
Many years were spent believing that I was not a competent person, because I was told by so many adults and fellow children during my life.
Somewhere, at some part of my life, something happened and the doubts of what I felt, believed and knew disappeared. When I got into arguments with someone over something I finally knew what I wanted to believe, and what I wanted to stand up for, who to help, protect, and how to live, and with total determination I fought for it, stood up against the crowd.
Even in a non-toxic home people can be so submissive to authority that they don’t think for themselves but believe that they do. What they really do is do as they are told, live as they are told, behave as they are told to behave and strive to be a better version of what society tells them they should be.
But even these people can Wake Up” and have an epiphany, a realization that they were not thinkers, and then they reform their minds by seeking a new way, healthy life, be more spiritual, and they come up against authority in an effort to make the rest of the world a better place.
I don’t know how or why I changed from submissive, scared of life, unconfident and cowardly to fiercely determined to be my own thinker, do things as I saw fit, but it happened.
Once it happens “You Know You”.
You know that what you think is solid as rock in your
mind and you won’t be budged.
It is not narrow-minded thinking because you still
are able to consider other views and evidence, but once something is solid in your
heart then thats it, you know!
This is a kind of “coming of age” where you leave immaturity and fears behind, and you stand up and make your mind, life and feelings something solid, and you are not afraid of defending your feelings, loves, views and thoughts.
You are not afraid of speaking out, defending truths, defending those who need help, and being Just, Righteous, and a defender of truth and justice.
Same as when Martin Luther came up against the greatest authority of his time, the Pope, and said that he wouldn’t recant, he refused to take back his views and even though what seemed like certain death loomed before him he refused to recant, would not retract from what he stated before.
When we get to that stage as Luther did, we becomes who we were born to be, strong, capable, steadfast and determined, especially to right the wrongs of the past and set people free. He was born for that moment.
It becomes a sort of obligation to do one’s best to do what he or she can do for others. Like Florence Nightingale taking on the male dominated medical world and turning it upside down saving millions of lives. She was born for this.
You are born for something, when you are ready, you will know what it is.
When “you know you” you know what it is that you need to do in your life.
All the best from
