I had a car body shell that needed to be put on a trailer using a Chain Jack which can be seen in image 2.

The ceiling joists were thin and I said to my friend that no way could one hold the old car shell up, it was far too heavy. He just laughed.

He then got some rope and run it over many joists, back to the chain jack then up over some more rafters distributing the weight over many rafter and then he used the chain jack to lift the car.

Their was a bit of groaning from the wooden joists but that was all, nothing broke and the car was lifted high enough and the trailer pushed under the car then the car body lowered on to the trailer to be strapped down and taken away.

It all went smoothly and taught me a lesson about how a single joist had little strength, but when the weight was distributed over a wider area all the joists involved took up the strain and that was easily enough to lift the car body, many joists had much strength.

I repeated this here so that if you had such a job to do in the future you may be able to do the same thing for your needs.

All the best from
