One Pastor’s Pilgrimage

One Pastors Pilgrimage is a book about Lonnie H Webb.

Nortex Press, Austin, Texas.

I have read many books about religious people and atheists, also books about Pastors and Priests. The reason was to try and get a feel for who a religious person is, Priest and Pastor, what they do, and what the job involves in a spiritual sense.

Some of the books and people remembered but I have forgotten their names because I read them 16 years ago, but some I remember.

This book is very interesting to me because I have always had a great interest in history and people for the past, and the government has an established accepted history, while these books written by people have a different story to tell, more down to earth and give us an interesting look into their lives at the time that they were alive and how they affected the world, saw the world, lived and how they did things back then.

I have always been interested in how people did things, its always been a revelation of how people cooked, what they cooked on, how they made fences, buildings, what worked, what failed, what they did next, how they went about in life, made friends, dealt with difficult situations and hard times, while keeping positive and looking after a family, business, church etc.

History, and especially individual humans history has never failed to amaze me.

One Pastor I read about spend a lot of his time with the teenagers, teaching them, preparing them to for life, going on many trips with them, swimming in lakes, all good stuff, while showing them a life without alcohol, and a life of happiness without bad behaviour. And this all showed me that it can be done and that people who are religious can be very helpful in the community, have great worth to the young who are lost and didn’t have a good upbringing, and its not about growing up poor, but growing up with a lack of guidance, Life Education and a lack of love.

Example:
One of the boys who was not a Christian and had lived a pretty wild life suggested that we go over to Seguin and spend the night in the red light district.

All the boys seemed to think that this would be a lot of fun and all gave their consent to go.

Something on the inside of me told me that this was not the thing to do and later on in the week I told him that I was not going and that I was a Christian and I thought this was wrong.

On Friday morning when I told him this all the other boys joined with me and said they were not going.

The boy who made the proposal became very angry and called us a bunch of sissies.

Through the years I have thanked God that He saved me from going on into that experience.

Example of content:

"With Dad's farming I tried to make a hand on the plow and with a hoe. I worked hard but had a lot of time for hunting and fishing on rainy days and Saturdays."

"Dan had not been ridden for some time and the new saddle frightened him.

As I started to mount he made a jump and I landed behind the saddle and he took off running and pitching."

"I put my dollar watch down on the pulpit as I had seen preachers do. I wanted to make sure I preached at least twenty minutes. I preached through my first outline and found I had only used three minutes."

"Dr. Baines had recently died and Mrs. Baines said just before he died that he motioned for her to come near ... He whispered, 'Tell the boys, tell the boys, preach the Word."'

"I saw the three men who escaped from prison drive in .., I knew they were armed and would not be taken alive."

"The big waves were throwing water over into the boat. I had a gallon bucket that I used to dip water. When we got ashore, Pringle said, 'Have you been praying?' My reply was, 'No, I have been dipping water.'"

"Sinda and I were standing by Mother's bed and I had hold of her hand when she took her final breath and slipped away into the other world. I bowed my head and said a little prayer of thanksgiving that she had finally gone into a land where 'there shall be no more death,' Rev. 21:4."

"The doctor said, 'Mr. Webb you can't live with that infection.' Dads reply  was, Who said that I have to live? I am almost 98 years old and when 1 die that old leg will still be in place.'"

"Now we two leisurely walk those same old grounds

Counting our blessings, and following the hounds

Of golden memories, each one a treasure

That gladdens our hearts beyond all measure."

- One Pastor's Pilgrimage - Lonnie Houston Webb.

God's people should fill the gaps, and many of these books are about people who do just that and they did an amazing job of it too, changing people's lives forever, completely for the better, and giving them faith in the God who is alive and with them at all times, who they love, appreciate, have faith in and are guided by.

A lot of Lonnie's life is about farming, his ministry, friend, family, and the stories he has to tell.

Lonnie writes:

My deepest desire is to please God and give Him all the glory. If my experiences can help someone to be a better Christian or lead someone to know the Savior as Lord, then I will be happy. This is not a autobiography, but it does relate in a general to an outline of my life. This is the story of one Pastors pilgrimage.

He talks of Indian attacks, meeting people, how people came to know God and were bad people but changed when they heard the preached, he mentions the many revivals, the results, what happened, and the people. He also speaks of those that were lost and sad, and of the good times, in other words he is sharing many people's histories and what happened to them and some of his own personal history, the places he lived, the woman he married, their trials and events, their love and lives, and it makes interesting reading.

I have read this book a few times, its a good book, and an interesting look into the life of an American Pastor and life in those times.
