One way to help yourself find out what it is that you want in life is to get a pencil and paper or better still a computer and when you are feeling frustrated or angry with yourself write down what it is that upsets you and what advice do you have for yourself, the same advice that you would give to someone who you love and care about, give that same advice to yourself.
There are many reasons for a person to become frustrated with himself.
One is when you do something wrong and then wish that you didn't do that same thing over again because it makes you feel so bad.
There is probably some good advice floating around in your head waiting to be listened to or acted on, but you are often so caught up in the disappointment of the problem that you cannot hear the answers that are being given to yourself by yourself.
You see we people like to give other people advice and we expect or want these other people to follow our advice.
You can, by using this method, also give yourself the advice that you believe that you should follow.
There are many reasons why you may not have previously followed the advice or thoughts that you have towards yourself. One is laziness and wanting to sit back and "go with the flow", or to just cruise through life.
Another reason is that your head may feel clouded with the problems that you currently have and many other problems.
But your mind can see where you have gone wrong and wants to let you know that it is time to get your life in order and for you to become disciplined and organised.
Looking at your situation from "the outside" is one of the ways that a mind-doctor or friend can help you.
But you can also use this trick to help yourself.
To give yourself this advice you must be in the right frame of mind to some degree.
You cannot be sulking, or feeling desperately low, or miserable, or hateful, or full of revenge etc. You must know that you need some help with your life. It would help a lot if you do want change in your life as well.
The next step is to act on your advice.
Wait until you are feeling better and have rested then look at what it is that you wrote. Be realistic and reasonable. Do not be to hard on yourself immediately, this will (for most people) mostly turn you against the hard work. Gently ease yourself towards the advise that you have given yourself. Be sure that the advise is good and useful. You may want to share it with other people and ask for help. Of course when a person takes an approach to a problem that is not what is considered normal then you may find some raised eyebrows and questions about what it is that you are trying to achieve.
