Putting Arm back on my Spectacles.

Recently the arm on my spectacles broke. I just took of my glasses and the arm fell off. This had happened before so I already knew how to fix them. I took the opportunity to take some photos to share how it is done with you all. From what I can guess, when they are made that they are just glued on.

Image 1 shows by spectacles, the arm that came off, and the glue I bought this morning to glue it back on.

There is a bit of a trick to it though.

Image 2

In Image 2 we can see a piece that sticks out where the arm goes on. If we just glue this bit then the arm can still swing, but if we glue this and the arm the arm will not be able to move. We want it to move as it did before it came off. To the right we see the arm and the slot that slides onto the bit sticking out that we are going to glue.

Before I applied the glue I cleaned out the slot in the arm with a paper clip with a bit of tissue paper around it, so that I could get all the dust out to make a good bond. It is always a good idea to clean both surfaces before we glue it.

In Image 3 we can see the blob on glue that I applied and the next thing I did was carefully slide the arm on, and leave it to dry for about 4 hours. It was quick drying Super Glue but because I put so much on I preferred to let it set.

For some applications of glue sometimes its trial and error trying different glues before I find the right one. Hopefully this one is the right one.

All the best from
