Richie Rich
1994
Comedy, Family - 1 hour 34 minutes
Director: Donald Petrie.
Producer: Joel Silver & John Davis .
I have read the Richie Rich comic books in the past so I was familiar with the Richie
Rich character before I saw the movie.
They do a pretty good job of bringing the
comic characters created by Alfred Harvey and Warren Kremer to life.
With Macaulay Culkin acting as good guy Richie Rich and the bad guy played by John Larroquette to perfection as only he could, we get an exciting adventure. Interesting enough, Macaulay Culkin’s younger brother, Rory Culkin, played the part of Young Richie Rich.
Richie, being the worlds richest boy, with billionaire parents, has a well protected
life, with his constant sidekick companion Cadbury the butler at his side, leads
a formal boring life, especially for a child. Naturally the parents need to make
sure that their only child is safe from bad people, but in doing that Richie's options
for fun are limited, and there is very little chance of his having a social life
with children around his own age. Public school is obviously too dangerous for such
a wealthy boy, the chances of kidnap high, so being educated with strict security
at home seems to be the only choice.
Richie longs to be like the other children, he
longs to be active as they are on careless activities, fun and sports.
They though, see Richie as some spoiled kid who has it all and not on their low level at all. Richie is rejected by them at first.
Rich Industries Chief Finance Officer, Lawrence Van Dough, is greedy and sets up his plans to have it all the easy way, with the help of the head of security, Ferguson. There is an attempt on the parents lives, who were supposed to die with young Richie, but plans don’t go as the Chief Finance Officer plans and this leads to more excitement, fun, adventures, risks and the children that Richie longs to make friends with all join in dealing with the bad guys and saving Richie’s parents.
Cadbury the butler is always there to help and hs efforts bring additional humour to this children, and adults, fin adventure.
A fun adventure for children to watch and of course save the day.
All the best from
