Safe Haven

2013.

Director: Lasse Hallström.

Producers: Marty Bowen. Chad Freet. Wyck Godfrey. Ryan Kavanaugh.

Romantic Drama Fantasy Thriller.

A woman suffering domestic abuse escapes from her home in Boston, we see her in a part where she has a bloodied knife in her hand and fleeing from the home terrified for her life.

In other scenes we see a Policeman, Kevin Tierney, a Boston police detective, desperately trying to get to her.

Even from the beginning he comes across as somewhat fanatic, but you remind yourself, he is part of the Police force, so why is she fleeing from the Police

In another scene she see’s some Police and is clearly frightened, so one wonders just what has she done (the bloodied knife) and why is she hiding from the Police.

She gets off the bus at small town of Southport, North Carolina and likes the look of the peaceful town.

She tells the local people that her name is Katie, and blends in.  She gets a job and a small cabin a distance from the town. In the town she meets a man (Alex) and his two children a boy and girl named Josh and Lexie, and a woman who she finds peeking into her home. In time Katie becomes romantically involved with the store owner, but she is hesitant to do so at the beginning when she first meets him - more of her mystery.

Clearly it is noticeable from her behaviour alone that something is very wrong, and she is avoiding something and hiding from someone, and hiding from the past, this can’t end well because she has not dealt with those of the past, instead she leaves them alone, but they don’t want to leave her alone. It seems that she had two ways to deal with the situation and she chose to run instead of going to the Police to get protection and help.

Posters for a woman with the name of  "Erin" are made and they say that Erin  is wanted for first-degree murder, this was the effort of a very determined Policeman, Kevin Tierney. Alex comes across Erin's wanted poster in the police station and notices the picture bears a strong resemblance to Katie and so wanting answers he confronts Katie with the information, and this causes a big argument.

From here on the movie gets very exciting and all secrets are let out of the bag along with some surprises.

An excellent movie, another gem from made from a Nicholas Sparks' 2010 novel.
