How to teach a subject that you are not skilled in.

I talked to many Home School parents and what they do is send the child to an expert that hired out their skills or even get a retired person to teach the children the skill.

My children learned piano and organ off a piano teacher, a Mrs Hill, and my daughter Grace went to Athletics where many local children after school hours did physical sporting activities, and on weekends as well. At home we still did other activities such as sports like Karate, but this was a chance for Grace to mingle with other children while being homeschooled and a chance to compete against them as well.

You should never expect yourself as a parent to be an expert at all you teach your children, school teachers have their skills as well, and some things that they are not so good at teaching - if you think back to your school days you should remember this to be true from your own experience with school teachers.

Do the best that you can with the skills that you have, and while teaching enjoy the thrills of trying something new every now and then with your children so that you all enjoy the thrill of doing something new.

If you are not good at a subject then find someone who is good at that subject and hire them to teach your children or ask them to do it.

Please don’t go with the pressure that your children must be up to standard as all other children of that age.

Your child will learn in your child’s own time. You, as the parent, know best.

Pressure, especially from the parents will not help the child learn, in fact it will often do the opposite and take away the enjoyment of learning.

If the child has bitter feelings about the learning then he or she will want to forget the schooling/lesson as soon as possible.

If you are a member of a local Homeschooling group then you can ask other members what is available in your area, who does what and how much, if there is any cost. Some parents help out other parents for free because they have the particular skills needed to teach the children a subject. For instance one could be a writer, electrician, cook, baker, carpenter etc.

It all works out for the community that helps each other out for the greater good of all.

All the best from
