Bridge to Terabithia

2007 film

PG - 1 Hour 36 Minutes - Drama, Family, Fantasy

Two 12 year olds, Jesse Aarons and Leslie Burke, going to a school and are bullied by the bad older children.

The boy a talented artist, the girl a talented writer, both good runners, both looking for hope, change, and escape from their home life, like they are seeking that life can be better, it just needs to be elsewhere physically and in their minds.

The movie, is based on Katherine Paterson's 1977 book of the same name is full of excitement, imagination, magic and fun, and also some sad depressing moments like how Jesse is treated at home and by his father, and his mother seems to prefer his sisters to him, so he tends to feel alone in the world.

Leslie is just who he needs, she becomes the light in his darkness.

Like many children of the past before electronics became such a main part of the minds of the young, entertainment was often children’s imaginations and I can remember as a child on the back paddocks and bush in Huntly, New Zealand with my sisters and friends making up exciting game sand adventures, its a wonderful way to escape the lives of grown ups who are often too serious and have out own imagined fun times.

Like many young lads he falls in love with his fun loving music teacher who brings out the best in bully and victim alike. Another form of escape for the lad. Leslie’s parents are writers and are like a whole different world to Jesse.

Things get really exciting when Jesse loses his father keys. Sad ending though.

The movie deals with many social issues such as bullying, death, friendship, loneliness, letting go, and especially being with people who you really care about.

Recommended, imaginative people, for the excitement  - good movie.

I was rather pleased t fid the movie on YouTube. I was watching it on DVD.

Good score for those who don’t own the movie.
