Venetian Blinds too short for the window?

One of our local stores was having a sale on Venetian Blinds so I bought some.

I wanted to put one Venetian Blind in the lounge on the big window next to the ranch slider, but to my surprise the Venetian Blind was too short, probably by about 12 cm/5 inches.

Still wanting to use the Venetian blind I was looking for ideas.
Then one day at a friends house he mentioned that he had some 4 by 2 lengths (4 inches by 2 inches) of wood and we talked about using one of these. He gave me one to use. I was pleased to give it a go and see if this new idea worked.

When I got it home I drilled holes in the length of wood end on, on the 2 inch side, but the bolts would have had to be very long and I didn’t have any that long, so I used a bigger drill bit that was wide enough for a socket to fit into and drilled about halfway (See Image 1), and then I drilled in the shorter bolts into the wood (4x2) and then into the wood window frame across the top.

This made up for the shortness of the Venetian Blind.

I hope I explained that well. It worked and because the 4x2 was at the top of the window it was not obvious at all that it was there. I painted the 4x2 to match the window frame and then attached the Venetian Blind with the screws provided with the Venetian Blinds, and it was a perfect fit.

This example fits the “Where there is a will there is a way”.
