The Yogi and the Touchstone.

Many years ago, an old sage told an aspiring yogi that a “touchstone” would be worth a lot of money to him, for it was diamond encrusted in gold.

The “touchstone” he was told looked like any other pebble to be found on any shore; the only difference was that the “touchstone” would be warm, whereas all the other pebbles would be cold.

The yogi set out in search of his fortune, looking for a “touchstone.”

He scoured beach after beach, shore after shore. He picked up pebbles by the score, by the hundred, by the thousand, and as he felt each one and it was cold, he tossed it back into the sea.

One day he happened to pick up a stone that was without question a “touchstone,” for it was definitely warm.

However, the yogi was so used to tossing the pebbles back into the sea that he tossed this one back also. In the same way, we go through life not grasping the opportunities that reveal themselves as the ”touchstone” did.

We still toss them away, for it is our long— standing tradition, our force of habit, our second nature, to toss opportunities away, fail to recognize them and to look only for the catch.

As you go through life, let this be your goal: look for the doughnut, not the hole!
