Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover.

Means that we shouldn't judge something by its outward appearance.

That pretty girl or handsome man may appear to the eyes to be delightful, but have a stone cold heart within.

We shouldn’t judge people by their appearance.

Example:

I read about an elderly millionaire who would dress up in the basics when with his wife when on holiday.

He would wear any old pair of ragged jeans, old stained tops etc, so that he could just relax.

They bought a cottage in France where he and his wife were not known.

When they went into town they would go to this small store and get bread, butter, and the basics.

The store owner judging them by their appearance felt so sorry for these nice people he was always giving them discounts, so that they would pay less.
He thought that to wear those clothes they must be desperate for money.

One day someone came into the store and told him that the man and his wife were very wealthy.

Upon hearing this news the store owner was furious, he felt that they had tricked him.

But the reality is that they did nothing to trick him, he was just making the mistake of judging them by their outward appearance - it was the store owner who made the mistake.

“Appearances are often misleading, so please, don’t be so shallow as to judge my book without having read it first. The cover is rather dull, but looks aren’t everything.”

You can't judge a book by its binding.

You can’t judge the inside of a book by the outside cover.

The cover may be old and dusty, grey and unattractive, yet hold a wonderful exciting colourful adventure within.

Beauty is only skin deep.

What really matters the most about a person is invisible to the eyes, you need to get to know someone for a while before you finally find out who their character really is.

Sometimes we find out the hard way, by experience, that we judged a person wrong when we only judged them by their looks and not their character. Time will tell.
